Berwick steps back to the 1940s to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day (8th May 1945) and the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Berwick Town Hall:

The 'Berwick at War' exhibition recalls life and events in the town during the wartime period. 'A Day in the 1940s' brings to life the home front experience with demonstrations covering everyday topics, for example; children's toys and games, rationing and “make do and mend”.

Windmill Bastion and Berwick Barracks:

Visitors can also enjoy a war-time lunch, experience a recreated Second World War air-raid shelter at Windmill Bastion and see a selection of civilian and military vehicles of the period at Berwick Barracks.

St Aidan's Hall, Church Street:

The challenges of being a bride during rationing are revealed in 'A Wartime Wedding - From Land Girl to Bride' with a costume-in-context performance by Lucy Adlington of the History Wardrobe, and the weekend programme ends with 'We’ll Meet Again', an opportunity to put on your glad rags and listen and dance to the music and songs of the 1940s.
