Armistice Weekend

Overview

'Berwick and the First World War' is an exhibition in the Guild Hall, with displays, talks and children's activities. The event runs on Saturday 10th (10am-4pm) and Sunday 11th (12noon-4pm) November 2018. 

A provisional programme of talks is listed below.

SATURDAY 10th NOVEMBER

11am - The poetry of Noel Hodgson: War Poet -  Sir Philp & Ann Mawer

12noon - The Aftermath in Berwick - short talk followed by guided tour round “The Aftermath” exhibition at the Barracks at 1pm - Nigel Sumerling

2pm - The Navy and the First World War - Jim Gibson

3pm - Landed Northumbrians at War - Sir Edward Grey, Sir Charles Trevelyan and Mike Fraser

SUNDAY 11th NOVEMBER

12.15pm - The War Memorials in St Andrews, Wallace Green Church: The Stories behind the Names - Linda Bankier

1pm - "From Scareship to Luxury Transport---Airships over Berwick" - Phil Rowett

2.15pm - The poetry of Noel Hodgson: War Poet - Sir Philip and Ann Mawer

3pm - “Does My Country really need me?” The work of the Berwick upon Tweed Military Service Tribunal 1916-1918

On Sunday, a Book of Remembrance will be available for people to sign. It will be preserved permanently in Berwick Archives.
