Overview

13 - 18 May 2014 sees the amazing "Follow the Herring" Knitted Boat on show for one week only in the Gymnasium Gallery. The exhibition needs your help to create a unique one-off exhibition around the boat. This is your chance to be part of this exciting project and exhibition.

Would you consider knitting a herring to be part of a shoal of fish that heads down the east coast to Hasting? Alternatively you could join members of the different groups that are interested in creating some textile art or producing art work that relates to the fishing heritage of Berwick and the surrounding area. If this sounds interesting and you'd like to find out more please email fthberwick@gmail.com or visit the Berwick Arts and Crafts website.

“Follow the Herring” is a Community Education Resource produced by the customs house and supported by Shoofty Publishing. The focus is on shared maritime history, social history and the herring fishing industry to encompass coastal communities and forgotten heritage. The tour of 13 selected venues on the east coast will celebrate this heritage through singing performance, craft and art.

Further information can be found at www.customhouse.co.uk/followtheherring.
