Father and son artists exhibit together at Berwick Watchtower
Father and son, Nevill and Matt Wilson are artists having a joint show in February, at the Watchtower Gallery in Berwick on Tweed.
Nevill, originally from Tynemouth, studied art at Middlesborough, Sheffield and the Royal Academy in London. He has lived, worked and shown his work around Britain. He has recently settled in Amble, Northumberland. His work has always reflected his living environment and hints at a kind of contemporary archaeology, the salting down of objects by time and tide and alludes to the way we live our daily lives.
Matt lives and works in Edinburgh. He is a recent graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art in Dundee and has already shown work in galleries around Scotland and in London. His work is based on the ephemeral relationship between man-made objects and structures and the environment in which they are found.
Nevill recently met Kate Stephenson, owner of the Watchtower, and was delighted when she offered him a retrospective show in her gallery. “This is a wonderful, once in a lifetime opportunity to see, in one place, the evolution of my work from the 1970s to the present day” said Nevill.
Through Nevill, Kate met Matt and extended her invitation so that he can have a complementary show of his work alongside his Dad. This will be the first time the two artists have exhibited together.
Both artists are predominantly printmakers and photographers and some of their recent work focuses on the beaches of Northumberland.
