The Lindisfarne Gospels in Durham
Be part of an enlightening journey as the Lindisfarne Gospels go on show in Durham from 1 July to 30 September 2013. The exhibition is a must see contemporary interpretation of the North's most enduring story, the tale of our famous saint Cuthbert, and a chance to see some of Britain's most significant medieval manuscripts alongside stunning Anglo-Saxon treasures.
Lindisfarne Gospels Durham will be open to the public from 1 July to 30 September 2013. Open from 10am till 10pm daily. Booking is essential and tickets are on sale now from the Lindisfarne Gospels website.
The Lindisfarne Gospels in Berwick-upon-Tweed
As part of the Lindisfarne Gospels events calendar for 2013, Berwick Barracks Museum and Art Gallery are hosting an exhibition on the Lindisfarne Gospels from 1st April to 19th May 2013. The exhibition is open from 10am til 5pm (Monday-Friday) and further details of all events associated with the Lindisfarne Gospels are available on the Gospels website.
Tom Fleming Calligraphy
Also part of the Lindisfarne Gospels events, 92-year-old calligrapher, Tom Fleming, has put his work on show for the first time. Tom Fleming's first exhibition - A Life in Letters, includes work dating back to the mid-1930s, with inspiration from a range of sources, from the bible to something as simple as his colleague's names. This extraordinary exhibition is at the Barracks Museum and Art Gallery from 1st April until 30th September 2013, 10am to 5pm (Mondays-Fridays). A Life in Letters is supported by the Elephant Trust.
The Maltings Theatre in Berwick is host to the premiere of the humerous re-telling of the story of the Lindisfarne Gospels - A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Durham - by Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood, on Thursday 11th July 2013 at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Maltings Box Office.
