Marlborough Cottage lies on the south side of the River Tweed in Spittal village, enjoying a commanding view of the Tweed estuary and Berwick Bay. It is within yards of the promenade and beach, and a few minutes drive or a leisurely walk from Berwick town centre.
It is the architect-designed conversion of what was originally the housekeeper’s rooms attached to Marlborough House – an early Victorian townhouse - with a lounge extension added to take advantage of the stunning views, and fitted out and furnished to a demanding standard.
There is one double bedroom, equipped with a wall-mounted LCD TV, and one triple, which has a full double bed with a full single bunk above. The large shower-room has a double-size cubicle, fitted with suction-fixed support grips and slip-resistant shower mats. The fully-fitted walk-through kitchen incorporates a washer/dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, built-in oven and halogen hob unit and microwave oven; this leads through to the lounge/diningroom which has a six-place dining suite, two leather easy chairs with footstools and a 32” wide-screen TV with satellite TV services and a DVD player. Security-enabled Wi-Fi internet access is provided.
Freshly-laundered bedding and towels (excluding beach towels) are provided, electricity and gas central-heating are included in the rental, subject to fair usage; for rentals longer than one week, a bedding and towel change are available each Saturday, together with a cottage ‘freshen-up’.
The cottage is laid out on one level and has ramped access; off-road parking is provided on our own land adjacent to the cottage. There is a sheltered paved patio area with a table and chairs, and a garden bench seat which guests are welcome to use to relax in. Laidlaw’s convenience store, in the village, carries most basic grocery needs, plus rolls and pies baked on the premises, newspapers and a selection of magazines. There are a filling station and ASDA superstore in Tweedmouth and a street market in the town centre on Wednesdays and Saturdays; there are also Tesco, Co-op and Morrisons supermarkets in and around town.
The local town bus service stops on the Main Street, and if you are arriving by train or coach there are taxi ranks at the station and in the town centre. Numerous local taxi operators cover the area into the late evening/early hours of the morning – booking is advisable.
