Ford & Etal Estates
Following the success of Airship Northstar in 2016, Impossible Gears is running Airship Northstar2 this July. The most Northerly steampunk festival in Britain, the weekend is a celebration of steampunk with amazing music, massive steampunk and alternative market, food, drink, laughter, jetpack racing, tea dueling, Bartitsu (the Victorian martial art), mesmerism, camping (for those that do) and general merriment of many sorts. In addition, there are many attractions, tea shops and antiques centres around the estates for Steampunkers to explore - in fact, you might say that Ford & Etal is Steampunk Heaven!
With all that's going on over the weekend you may even want to visit this quiet corner of Northumberland at a later date, just to take in the various attractions and activities. There's the steam railway at Heatherslaw; the 19th Century watermill with wheels and cogs galore, still making fresh flour using traditional methods; the stunning Victorian old school in Ford; the rare breeds and heavy horse centre and the ruined castle at Etal - all of which are offering discounted admission ** to anyone attending the festival (just show your wristband on entry). There are also lovely walks through the rolling countryside with views for miles, and an abundance of tearooms for you to stop and enjoy some refreshments - three in Ford, one at Heatherslaw and one in Etal. Enjoy!!
