Berwick Art & Culture Itinerary

Did you know: Berwick-upon-Tweed has always been popular with artists; J.M.W Turner, MacKintosh and L.S. Lowry all visited and painted here!

Arrive in Berwick-upon-Tweed By train, or by car, and head for Berwick TIC. Where you can pick up a free leaflet for the Lowry Trail. The walk will take approx 1 ½ hours in Berwick, or 3-4 hours including Tweedmouth & Spittal.
Have a refreshment/lunch break. There are lots of cafes available within the Walls. Local producers supply many of the eateries and you can find out more in the TIC.
Visit Galleries Head to the Granary Gallery for a changing programme of exhibitions (Wed-Sun during exhibitions). The Gymnasium gallery hosts contemporary exhibitions (Wed-Sun Easter-October during exhibitions).
Explore the Barracks. Visit the first purpose-built army Barracks in England, now home to 3 museums, with military history (English Heritage & KOSB) and Berwick Museum & Art Gallery (displaying part of the Burrell Collection).
Get your culture on! See The Maltings year-round programme of events and don’t miss our Autumn Festivals.
And finally… Wander along Bridge street for local galleries including; Bridge Street Gallery, Foldyard, Sallyport Gallery and cross the Old Bridge into Tweedmouth to find Dockside Gallery and the Tower House Pottery. Castlegate has Pier Red – licensed Art Gallery.
