The Historic Berwick Markets Return
The Butter Market Reopens – Dating back to the 19th century, the Butter Market was once a bustling hub where local farmers brought butter – traditionally wrapped in cabbage leaves – along with poultry and fresh produce to sell to townsfolk and visitors on busy market days.
Now, this atmospheric space, with its striking stone arches, is being brought back to life as a vibrant market once again. Visitors can expect an eclectic mix of vintage and antique pieces, handmade crafts and artwork, jewellery and textiles, as well as books, vinyl and all manner of unusual finds.
The area has been carefully refreshed with subtle lighting, reclaimed vintage trestle tables and discreet weather protection.
Marygate’s Charter Market will be in full swing, offering a wide range of fresh local produce including vegetables, bread, cakes, fish and cheese, alongside outdoor wear, clothing, jewellery, gifts and toys.
Down by the river, the Quayside Huts near the Old Bridge will also be open, close by is the highly-reviewed Lookout Café.
