An iconic Grade II* listed Georgian house set on Berwick’s Elizabethan Walls with unrivalled sea views.

Much loved and endlessly photographed, Berwick-upon-Tweed’s iconic Lions House holds a unique position on the town’s Elizabethan Walls. A magnificently restored Georgian house, named after the two seventeenth-century Venetian lions which sit on plinths by the front entrance, it enjoys unparalleled views out to sea and over the mouth of the River Tweed. With sophisticated interiors and such an enviable position, it makes an excellent base for a holiday spent exploring the town and the surrounding area.

Spacious and spread across four floors, Lions House sleeps six guests in three large bedrooms, each with their own en suite bathroom. As the house is the highest building in Berwick-upon-Tweed, the bedrooms enjoy panoramic views across the Tweed Estuary, the Royal Border Bridge, and the North Sea – all framed to maximum effect by lofty sash windows flanked by wooden shutters.

Step inside to discover a grand entrance hall with a sweeping staircase, including an original ornamental ceiling created by a local craftsman using real shells. The bright kitchen and dining room is situated to the left. Fitted with a bespoke deVOL kitchen, large gas range cooker, and Sonos sound system, it’s an excellent space to relax and gather for meals.

Across the inner hall, a snug with log burner and table is the perfect place to enjoy board games and cards in the evening. You’ll find another living room with dual-aspect windows and comfy sofas upstairs, as well as the first bedroom with a king size bed and roll-top bath. The final two bedrooms are situated on the top floor and both fitted with super king size beds, one of which can also be configured as twins.

The pretty walled garden is accessed through the lower ground floor, where you’ll find another a living room which looks out across the lawn. Garden furniture on the patio creates a lovely place to sit when the sun is shining, while the town walls are on your doorstep and ideal for evening strolls.
