With performances from morning until dusk, there is music for every generation… classical chamber concerts, folk music, a workshop, a Family Concert, and ‘Traditional Tunes for Tiny People’ music and storytelling sessions.
Music at Paxton’s mission is to provide affordable access to world-class music in an underserved area of Northumberland and the Borders. Our core activity is a ten-day chamber music festival in the idyllic setting of Paxton House, near Berwick-upon-Tweed, and our programme is focused on attracting the widest range of audiences, particularly families and those new to classical music.
Music at Paxton’s 20th Anniversary Festival runs from 17 – 26 July 2026, celebrating this milestone with a programme combining established world-class performers with the very best of the UK’s emerging young musicians. Our informal and welcoming festival is enhanced by folk music sessions, a masterclass for young professional singers, and a specially devised early music concert celebrating Northumbria’s iconic Saint Cuthbert.
We offer generous concessions on all our concerts, and for under 26s have set aside 20 free tickets for every concert, to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Ahead of the main festival we have two free family-friendly taster concerts at Paxton House, and a family concert at The Maltings at Hide Hill (in association with The Maltings).
Established in 2006, Music at Paxton is a charitable organisation dedicated to bringing exceptional chamber music to a wide audience – both young and old, north and south of the Scottish Borders – to share, inform and inspire.
Music at Paxton has become an established fixture on the cultural calendar, and its unique character reflects the close relationship with Paxton House itself. The Picture Gallery, where the main concerts are held, creates the ideal setting and acoustic, and provides a unique and intimate ambience.
Music at Paxton is passionate about opening the world of chamber music to the widest possible audience, and the Festival enjoys a thriving partnership with Live Music Now Scotland. Each spring, they perform in our free ‘taster’ concerts and deliver programmes in schools, care homes and day centres throughout the Borders in the weeks leading up to the Festival.
