“A weekend of activities, entertainment and experiences for all the family celebrating the 400th anniversary of Berwick Bridge.

Event sites on both sides of the River Tweed in Berwick and Tweedmouth.

Our Celebration Weekend is part of a community festival created by organisations in Berwick-upon-Tweed and co-ordinated by a voluntary group to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the opening of Berwick Bridge in 1624. The events begin at 10.00am on Saturday 3rd August with a short opening ceremony attended by The Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland, Dr Caroline Pryer together with The Mayor of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Councillor John Robertson and the Civic Party. The programme includes 17th century period living history and street theatre scenes, art and craft activities for all the family, performances by local musicians and singers and a Sunday market on Berwick Quayside with stalls from local artisan food and crafts producers and street food traders. The events are taking place at locations in Berwick and Tweedmouth, linked by our old Bridge that will provide a safe, vehicle-free route between the sites. Admission to all the events is free of charge.

We invite everyone to share in our celebration of the iconic structure that has served our communities across the River Tweed for four centuries.

The ceremony concludes with a Blessing of the Bridge conducted by Churches Together in Berwick and a performance by the Thursdays Choir of a song composed specially by Alison Coates to celebrate the Bridge.”
