Join the Rangers from Space for Shorebirds Northumberland for a two-hour guided walk along the shore at Little Beach, Berwick-upon-Tweed.
The Northumberland coast is a truly special place for many reasons: it’s landscape, nature, people and history. Space for Shorebirds Northumberland is dedicated to protecting the birds and dunes of the Northumberland coast which are globally important and part of our precious natural heritage. Responsible for conserving shorebirds along the whole of the coastline from Seaton Sluice to Berwick upon Tweed, its main objective is to reduce the impact of recreation upon our nationally and internationally important bird populations. It also has a vital role in conserving the beautiful flower rich dune systems and grasslands that we are so lucky to have here on the Northumberland coast.

The Shorebirds team has agreed to come to Berwick and lead us on a two-hour guided walk. There is no charge for this event but due to its nature places are limited to 12 only. Prior booking is therefore essential. Please reserve your place on Eventbrite.

We will meet at the Little Beach Shelter, Berwick-upon-Tweed, at 10am on Thursday, 16 Nov and, after an introduction from the rangers, walk the shore with plenty of stopping to watch and discuss the wildlife we encounter on the way. The team will talk you through some of the common wader species, their life cycle and the challenges that they face, plus give you tips on how to identify them. This event is suitable for all. No prior knowledge is required.

If you have binoculars do bring them along, however some scopes/optical equipment will also be available to share.

Please note that although we will carry out a risk assessment for this outdoor event, it is taken wholly at your own risk, and you are therefore required to take full responsibility for your own health, safety and wellbeing whilst taking part. In particular, suitable clothing and footwear such as waterproofs, warm clothing and boots, is recommended.

Our Field Trips are generally accessible to all moderately fit persons, but not all will be suitable for persons who have reduced mobility. In this respect please note that during this event we will be walking over some uneven ground and along the shore.

In the case of extreme weather conditions, our event may be postponed. All those who have booked will be contacted directly by email should this occur.

There is no need to print out and bring your ticket, as we will have a record of your booking.

If you book this course online, we will hold your personal data in accordance with our privacy policy. If you do not wish us to hold your personal data, please book by post (see www.berwickea.co.uk) and do not supply an email address.
